Housing is the biggest line in most budgets. If you have run Buy or Rent, its yearly housing cost is real spending evidence; carry the number over yourself.
The money side has a sealed date. The week it buys is a separate question, and The Exit Rehearsal asks it.
Questions
- Why is this a range and not a probability?
- A probability needs a model of how the future is distributed, and I will not invent one. The corridor makes a smaller claim you can check: run the same arithmetic at the low and high ends you entered, and the crossing lands between these months. What the future actually does is not in the file.
- How should I choose low and high values?
- Not the worst case you can imagine. Use values you would actually defend: the spending total your statements support at one end, the loose version you would still stand by at the other, a return range you could say out loud. A range you do not believe produces a corridor you will not use.
- Why is future real return something to Carry?
- You can check a balance against a statement. You cannot check the coming decades of returns against anything. So the File treats return as uncertainty you carry, not a fact you can settle: keep a range, and the corridor shows what it does to the month.
- Does the File include tax or investment fees?
- No. The return you enter is a real return after the costs you assume, so a separate fee field would count them twice. Tax on selling belongs to Living off it and the Atlas. The method note lists everything this model leaves out.
- How are pensions and other later income counted?
- In today's money, price-linked, and reduced by the haircut you chose. From its start age, the counted part lowers what the pot must carry, so the target steps down as each income begins. The File never estimates your entitlement; the amount is yours to check against a statement.
- What do same ruler and different ruler mean?
- Two files sealed with the same model version were measured the same way, so their months compare cleanly. Files sealed with different versions were not: the page shows both results as they were saved and does not pretend the difference is one clean number.
- Where is the browser copy stored?
- In this browser's local storage, and nowhere else. It is not sent to me. Anyone using this browser profile may be able to open it, and browser cleanup can remove it; the downloaded JSON is your durable copy.
- Is the downloaded JSON encrypted?
- No. It is plain text: anyone who has the file can read it. Store and share it as you would a financial document.
- Can I share the file with a partner or adviser?
- Yes, and it is built to travel: send the JSON and they can open it on this page. It is plain text, readable by anyone who holds it, so share it as you would a financial document.
- What happens if I clear browser data or use private browsing?
- The browser copy is gone. Private windows may keep nothing after they close, and clearing site data removes the File with it. The page cannot stop that; the downloaded JSON is the recovery path, which is why sealing ends in a download.
- Do I need an account?
- No. There is nothing to sign into. The File lives in this browser and in the JSON you download.
- Does the File tell me when to leave work?
- No. It keeps your plan, shows the honest range around its date and points at the next fact worth checking. When to leave is a decision, not a calculation, and it stays yours.
