The FIRE Exit
Glossary

The blank page

My term for the challenge that arrives after you hit your number: with no job to shape your days, you have to decide for yourself what your time is for. The money problem is solved; the meaning problem is not.

What it means for you

The hardest part of an early exit is often not the maths but what you do on the Monday after you stop.

My take

Know what you want before you reach the page — start writing on it while work still pays the bills. Better: arrive with a whole notebook of scribbles of what you want in life, and chase that. That's the real freedom.

Read the thinkingThe blank page Nobody warns you about the morning after financial independence: the freedom turns up empty-handed. What I've learnt about filling it.
