Investor compensation scheme
The national safety net behind a broker: if the firm fails and client assets turn out to be missing, the scheme pays compensation up to a ceiling — €20,000 in most EU countries. It never covers investments simply losing value.
What it means for you
Read the thinkingThe broker guide The main brokers available to Europeans, compared on what actually decides it — the cost of your pattern, what happens if one dies, who does your tax paperwork. No affiliate links anywhere on it.Your funds are held segregated from the broker's own money and normally survive a collapse whole; the scheme is the backstop for fraud and shortfalls, not a limit on how much is safe to invest.
